President global Sleep Business, ResMed
Jim Hollingshead is the President of the global Sleep business unit at ResMed (NYSE: RMD), a key innovator in the medical device sector, and the world’s leading producer of medical devices for the treatment of sleep apnea. At ResMed, Jim has helped to create a transformative strategy as the leader of the corporate strategy team, and then execute it as the leader of the Americas region, then the company’s largest commercial operating unit. Beginning in late 2011 ResMed began the process of developing a strategy to transform their business – and the sleep therapy industry – by introducing built-in communications on all of their medical devices, coupled with cloud-based business process automation applications that would help customers grow revenues while also cutting costs. In late 2014 under Jim’s leadership ResMed launched that new offering in the Americas, which led to rapid share gains in their core market, and unprecedented adoption of ResMed’s SaaS platforms. As a result, ResMed is now among the world’s leaders in digital health, and has an expanding portfolio of device + SaaS based offerings. In mid-2017, Jim was promoted to lead the newly created global Sleep business unit, expanding his geographic scope to include Europe and Japan, and expanding his responsibilities to include R&D and product development for all sleep offerings globally.
Jim started his business career in Strategy Consulting with the Monitor Group, a global advisory firm originally founded out of the Harvard Business School. During his time at Monitor, Jim had the opportunity to work across the globe, including stints in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Istanbul, London and San Francisco. Jim led several individual practices for Monitor; he founded Monitor’s Marketing Strategy practice in Europe, and finished his Monitor career as Managing Partner of the West Coast, turning it into one of Monitor’s most profitable business units. Jim left Monitor when he was recruited by Deloitte Consulting in San Francisco to help grow their strategy consulting practice. During his 17 year consulting career, Jim worked across a wide range of industries, including most prominently biotech, high tech, and telecommunications.
Jim currently sits on the Board of SleepScore Labs, a startup JV between ResMed, Pegasus Capital and Oz Media, that has developed an innovative digital platform aimed at creating a consumer marketplace for scientifically validated sleep solutions. His other board memberships have been to represent ResMed in various portfolio companies.
