Bern has worked across the Cardiovascular and Orthopaedics industries, joining Stryker in 2003. He held various positions across R&D, Operations, Business Development and Engineering and in 2014 became the leader of Stryker’s initiative in Additive Technologies (3D Printing). Since then, Stryker has expanded its investment in this ecosystem creating the AMagine Institute, Stryker’s centre of excellence in additive technologies and supply chain, including its strategy to support patient-specific devices and other services.

Under Bern’s leadership, Stryker has delivered break-through developments. Unlike traditional manufacturing methods, 3D printing creates devices by building successive layers of raw material such as metals, plastics, and ceramics. This innovative technology creates the potential for better patient outcomes. Much of this technology has been developed and driven in Cork, home to one of the largest 3D Printing MedTech facilities in the world.

Just recently, Bern assumed leadership of the Global Advanced Operations which is responsible for all new product commercialisation across the supply chain network. Bern holds a PhD in Polymer deformation micromechanics, Graduate Diploma in Management Systems, a BSc in Physics with Medical Technology and an MSc in Corporate Leadership.
