Total expenditure (2008-2015) is over €4.2 million, with 40% contribution from member companies and the remaining 60% funded by the state. Targets of over 6,000 trainees and 30,000 training days have been achieved.

First Polymer Training (FPT) Skillnet operates as an enterprise led training network for the Irish polymer industry and is funded by Skillnet Ireland and member companies. The network is in operation since 1999, initiated and promoted by Polymer Technology Ireland (Ibec). First Polymer Training’s objective is to provide subsidised technical training to industry, both at its technical training centre in Athlone or in-company as required. The centre in Athlone is a state of the art facility with a range of injection moulding machines, an extruder, a thermoformer and purpose built maintenance training boards.
First Polymer Training is the sole QQI validated provider of a range of polymer specific programmes and also works closely with Athlone and Sligo Institutes of Technology on delivering 3rd level polymer programmes for industry.
